You either have the steering wheel turned as far as it can go to one side or the other and the locking mechanism for the column has engaged and there is too much force exerted on the locking pin to move it with an ignition key or the ignition switch or mechanism behind it is humped. Try to turn the wheel slightly to release the pressure on the pin while turning the key. If that doesn't work, you have an ignition cylinder/mechanism problem. Good luck.

did you try to move the wheel? sometimes the wheel will be in the wrong spot and can make it hard to turn so you have to use force to turn the wheel. i have had a 93 s-10 for a long time and have replaced many parts and for the cylinder to go out is rare. so try to turn the wheel a bit and see what it does

this often happens when the steering wheel gets tightly locked in one position. most mechanics simply hit the steering column and the wheel will brake loose. after the wheel is loose the key should turn.
