The RCA connections only push out between .3 - 6 Volts RMS, the subs won't even be heard. The RCA's go to an amp.

You're not likely to get very good sound from the subwoofer without an amplifier. Some Pioneer decks are designed to connect a subwoofer directly to the rear speaker outputs, but power is very limited and if you're using them for a sub you can't use them for rear speakers as well. Most other brands lack an internal crossover for the rear speaker output, so they shouldn't be used with a subwoofer at all. You can find many subwoofer packages that have built-in amplifiers and are very easy to install; the best I've seen is the Infinity Basslink. Otherwise, even a budget 2-channel amp and 4-ohm subwoofer can give you a real improvement in sound without costing too much.

Those are your signal lines (RCA Cables). They send the signal either to an amplifier, crossover, equalizer, or preamped subwoofer. Depends on what type of setup you want to run, will depend how you use the RCA's. You have many choices, but the sub will need to have a amplifier to increase the signal to the sub. If the sub isn't setup for low frequencies already, like a bandpass setup, you will need to get a low frequency crossover so the sub doesn't play higher frequencies. I'd suggest a crossover with a bass boost and gain, so you can adjust to your listening level. Some equalizers, amplifiers, and pre-amped subs, come with built-in crossovers. Look for these, they can save you money in the long run, and save on extra wires you may have to run.
Another option is what they call a passive crossover. I don't like to use these, they take more power to use these types of crossovers, and don't give you the same effect as an electronic crossover. They only give you an advantage when you are running multiple speakers with very few amps.

YEs, if your subwoofer has a built-in amplifier then just plug in and power up. Turn on subwoofer on the Stereo console. Happy listening.

I Wouldn't recommend it....If I where you I'd get an Amplifier and give the system the wattage it needs. I don't think your headunit would give you the power your sub needs anyway.
