Hello, I have recently been studying wicca with interest, but have come upon something that I don't fully understand. When consecrating an object, what is the difference between the cleansing with salted water and the anoiting with oil? Is this repition of similar acts for reinforcement? Or have they seperate purposes? Many thanks and be well!

Salt Water and oil are both good methods, it all depends on the object. Some objects can disolve when coming in contact with water, but not oil.

When in doubt, go with your Gut. The Lady won't lead you wrong.

I never really heard about consecrating an object with salt water. But anoiting with oil is a sign of royalty. According to the Old Testament, all the kings were anointed with oil. It was to say that God chose him as king.
