I get this a lot from Christians. First they tell me to read their Bible. When I tell them I already have, they tell me I obviously didn't understand it.
But it's really not such a difficult book. It's even translated into my own language!
Weirdly enough, when I read Voltaire, Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer, Rousseau or whoever, I never get accused of not having understood what I have read. People accept various opinions about their ideas.
My problem is, I'm constantly being told to read the Bible, and accept Jesus, else I will burn forever.
I have read the Bible, I understood every word. Nice stories, beautiful metaphores, but I also see how we humans have grown intellectually since that book was written. A lot of the Bible is pure nonsense.
So, shouldn't God have given me a better version of His Word, if he really wanted me to make a choice between heaven and hell? If I have read the Bible, understood every sentence, found it false; How do I ever get Jesus in my heart?
