I need to replace this stereo anyway since it doesn't play CDs anymore, plus I'm having problems holding the cup when I drive.

sounds to me like you need to quit drinking and driving.
DUI is getting pretty bad.
but if you insist on having your cup with you when you drive, i'm sure you can find cup holders at your local Wal-Mart that sit right on the transmission hump in front of your seats.
now, depending on your car, there are stereo installation kits that have slide out cup holders... see if your car can use one of those puppies. call your local car stereo shop.

Cut a hole in the retracting CD player deck if it has one. Or have your boyfriend hold it. Or get one of those cheap clip-holder style cupholders that slip into the window or ash tray slot.
