It was suppose to soften the skin, protect skin from freckles and dark spots. ( I read it in a history book years ago)

Long ago, they used lye as soap. Milk neutralizes lye just enough so it still cleans your skin, but it's not so harsh. Therefore, their skin would come out softer and more supple.

Its the most abundant mosterizer used in the world.Cleopatra use that too
