The ring is supposed to be symbolic of your love, no beginning, no middle, no end. I supposed you could use other round objects (if you wanted to symbolize the same thing). You can use whatever you want, whereever you want to, it's your wedding, isn't it?

No need to exchange anything at all except vows. Seventh Day Adventists do not wear wedding rings. Also, people such as my self, who have neurofibromatosis, (tumors all over the body, including the fingers) may not be able to wear rings because of the tumors. And what about those who have the unfortunate disability of having no arms or hands, due to a birth defect, or even amputation? Rings are not necessary in a marriage. Rings are only a symbol, but, if your love is true, and strong, you need no such symbol. Only each other forever.

Wedding rings are simply a symbol of your commitment. If you feel that the exchange of something else would better symbolize the pact that you're making, then use something else! My cousin and her husband had a "hand-binding" ceremony -- it was very popular in Scotland and Ireland -- and she carries the cord that they were bound with always, but they don't wear wedding bands.

The wedding ring is a circle shape ornament which denotes and represents continuity of relationship. Due to its circular shape rings are generally preferred and accepted as wedding rings. However, there is no ban to give other items as gift on the wedding occasion. You can give necklace, ear rings, etc etc. but the finger ring is most preferred on wedding night gift. It is also a good omen for the new relationship to continue in future as well.. Good Luck.

Do whatever you want. Talk to the minister who is doing your ceremony, though. If they are very conservative, you may have to find someone else to do the wedding.
