I think his self-hatred led to his drug abuse.

And for those in the "being gay is a choice" camp, why would Ted Haggard choose that?!?

If he accepted his homosexuality, certainly his life (and the world) would be better.

If I read Ted Haggard's story in a novel, I would roll my eyes. The rabidly homophobic moralist who fights against drugs and gays turns out to be a drug-addicted gay man. Too cliche.

If he accepted his sexuality at a young age, he probably would find a nice man to settle down with and none of this would have happened. I agree. Colorado would be a lot better off without his church around, too!

It may be a possibility. If nothing else, we all know crystal meth isn't something you do when things are going okay in your life and you're happy with yourself.

But I think Haggard has a lot to answer for, with the hate he whipped up.

Ted Haggart is another Jimmy Swaggert - remember him??? Or the other guy that stole millions from his church. Do I see a pattern here??? Sex, drugs, money!!! Being homosexual is not a choice. Taking drugs and stealing is. Don't be fooled by this 'self-hatred' BS. He knew what he was doing and he enjoyed every minute of it. He feels guilty and cried for forgiveness because he got caught!!! Why would any sensible person give their money to such a person? or organization? What and who will we hear about tomorrow. Will you be surprised??? NOT ME!!!

His religious proclivities would never allow him to admit it to himself... he stressed himself out so much that he turned to drugs.

It's the fault of intolerant bigotry fueled by irrational faith.
