If you mean Indian as in from India - it's so that when all the outsourcing U.S. companies hire you to handle their customer service phone lines, you can communicate with the American on the other end. :) Just my supposition - not bitterness.

True studying your own language will help boost your understanding of a topic, however, as a developing nation on the verge of becoming a major player in the worlds economy, it makes sense for the people of India to know English fluently, and the best way to accomplish this is to force it upon them. I do not agree it is right, but when you look at the majority of the aide agencies that are in India, they are run from western cultures - and they do form the basis of your education systems for the under privileged. The people of your country are in a position where knowledge of English may be your only chance of a reasonable future.

Also people in Japan and China learn a vast amount of English in their studies. In actual fact people in these countries often have far better grammar than those people who learn t to speak English natively. You have to understand that as English is the standard language for business, it is essential to have a understanding of it.

I wholly agree with you that you would learn a lot more in your native tongue, but the simple fact is that the world will leave you behind.

It has nothing to do with outsourcing.
