How can a parent be so ignorant about their child's singing talent. I can't believe some of the people that auditioned for American Idol and their parents keep telling them they have a good voice when they sound like a foghorn. Don't you think it is better for the child to be honest with them than to be emabarrassed? So many parents are so afraid of hurting their kid's feelings and lie to them about how good they are at something then when they become adults they are shot down and they are totally disalousioned.

If someone isn't good at singing, their parents should perhaps encourage them in something they are good at.

But to be honest, my mom honestly thinks I have what it takes to be an American Idol. She really does think that. I can sing fairly well .... but I know I'm definitely not THAT good. My husband agrees with me.

Maybe some parents really do think their kids are hot stuff.

I hate that show. and the people who do it do as you say "sound like a foghorn" and yes I think that SOMEONE should have told these people to get a real job and a life. personaly I have only wached that show once and I thought it was the worst thing on the planet. I think that the parents should have raised the child with a good sence of what he/she can and cannot do. my parents have always suported me, but if I really wanted to do something they made sure that I had the education to back it up. I have tryed woodworking, cooking/baking, public speaking, artist, historain, and all kinds of other skills. my parents would let me try some thing and if I liked it then I had to do lots of reading and sometimes goto a summer camp on what I wanted to do. right now I am going more twards a culinary arts degree. Even though I just turned 17 and am in 11 grade I am working hard on job training and education to have a wide range of jobs availble.

Ever heard the statement 'the face only a mother could love'? Sometimes parents are blind to these things. To them their kids are the greatest, and can do no wrong. In other cases, the child refuses to hear the truth and have to be shot down to see reality. And yes some parents just cant bear to break their kids heart, but fail to see the damage that could be done by the embarrassment of an audition

I don't think it's really about not wanting to hurt their children's feelings.

I think for some of the parents it's about the learning experience. We learn the most from our mistakes and allowing a child to make their own mistakes is sometimes the bravest thing a parent can do.

For instance, I got a tattoo when I was 18. My mother wasn't crazy about the idea but she knew that it was something I really wanted and would likely do anyway. It wasn't something that would harm me or anyone else (like doing drugs or something) so she actually came with me to have it done to learn more about it. I don't really consider this a "mistake" I made...but other people would consider it to be one so I thought it was a reasonable example.

It's probable that many of these parents know their children sing poorly and likely (and tactfully) discouraged them from auditioning...but when your child has a dream, sometimes it's best to let them learn from their own experiences.

(Of course there are a few parents who are truly disillusioned but I wouldn't say that's the norm)

So, you pass the Dream Act. I am sure this would only open the floodgates to other countries, seed in your kiddies illegally, and if they do good you grant US citizenship. Our country would be flooded. Good immigration policy needs to be followed to the law. We are one of the VERY few countries that allow birth-right citizenship. This brings alot of woman here to hopefully 'pop the baby' in time for Uncle Sam to care fro them. I am from an immigrant family. Our family sacrificed to come here legally. So your answer is.......... no special privileges to people who squatted in our country illegally.
