Go to the docs, they will do simple tests..prick your inner arm. If you do not want to do this, if you are around a cat and if your eyes get watery, and you sneeze you are allergic, but some allergies to cats can be deadly and that is scary so watch out, maybe get tested at the docs!
Also think about this, cats and dogs both have hair, cats shed, some dogs do. If you have been around a dog that sheds and you are fine, most probably you will be fine around cats too.

HELP! I’M ALLERGIC TO THE CAT
1996 - 2006 S Hartwell

This was originally written as a pamphlet for a cat shelter which was regularly presented with cats unwanted due to "allergy". Doctors in the area were over-diagnosing cat-allergy, leading to many cats being unnecessarily relinquished. This was aimed at potential adopters. There are plenty of websites specifically about living and coping with cat-allergy.

Cats are reckoned to be one of the most allergenic creatures kept as pets. They can carry allergens (substances which can trigger an allergic reaction) which can trigger:

* hayfever-like symptoms
* asthma attacks in asthma sufferers
* cat-scratch fever (cat scratch disease)

spend time around a cat, if nothing happens, pet it, if you still have no allergic reactions you are not at risk. The first step of spending time around a cat is to find out if you are attacked by airborne allergens ( such as the carbon exhaled from its breath being airborne ) , if not, then by petting it it is rather more on a tactile level as well as to find out if its saliva may be hazardous to your system...if none of the above end up causing lung constriction or puffy eyes / runny nose and other discomforts...you are feline safe!

Go to your doctor and request an allergy test.

They have these little bubbles with things like dander and pollen. The pop the bubble with a needle and prick your arm or back to form a "graph". If the section of the graph is cat dander, and you swell up. you are the proud owner of a cat allergy!!!!

Yea!!!!!!

you can find out if you are allergic to cats by getting your doctor to do allergy tests on you and they can find out that way if you are for sure allergic to cats.

Easiest and SAFEST way is to go to the doctor and get tested. DO NOT try with a cat as some form of allergies are very nasty and can cause serious trouble, even death.

Perhaps you can go to a pet shop or shelter and visit the cats. If you start sneezing, getting a rash, being nauseated, or feeling not your usual self, perhaps you may be.

The best way is to go to an allergist and be tested for it.

Rub one on your face. Not really go to an allergist and get tested in a controlled environment.
