You need to format it first. Use the camera menu to format it.

Either you bought the wrong type of memory card (unlikely), a bad SD card, or your camera is malfunctioning.

go into menu and format the card
if that doesn't work
return the card
if the next card does the same thing
switch to a different brand

what brand of camera? not all SD cards follow the actual standard and thus may have inconsistent behaviour. sometimes you can read but not write.

check your card to another camera, if it can read, meaby you should check your camera.
if it still error, your card need to be check by computer, format it, then try it. if still error meaby the camera doesn't support it. check your camera website
