Now, that is an answer I like!
And, Holland is not a silly country at all; the world owes the microscope and other optical inventions to you, as well as woolen textile manufacturing, superb chocolates, split pea soup and your astonishing dyke systems that are the envy of the civilized world.

Creation is not a matter of science but religion. As a matter of course science doesn't explain "the origin of species" nor does it answer when (as far as I'm concerned) so what is the harm in teaching children science (what can be measured and has been verified), and also provide the alternative theory of "God set it all off" -- until there is a better answer? This is not a demand for the student to convert to Christianity, if they and their parents don't believe in God.
Compromise, since neither side is verifiable .

You're correct, that's about what it takes to explain both Creationism, Randomism and Evolution. About 2 minutes each.
By the way, don't we launch rockets by talking it. I mean haven't you ever watch TV and watched the Russian or American launch a rocket. Some "guys" talked from 10 to 1 and says ignition and lift off and the ship goes up, doesn't it.
That seems quite simple straightforward.
Let's start with science.
Mass has always exsited in the universe and will always exist (the law of the conservation of Mass). We don't know where it came from or how it got here, but one day, we think (no one knows for sure) a lot of mass accumulated and spontaniously combusted or a singlarity (we've never seen one nor examined one, but we "think" they exist so take it on faith) exploded with a great flash of light and ALL the stars, planets and galaxys came out of this explosion and from all the INORGANIC matter and mass somehow Organ life came about (we've never done this in the lab, no one has ever taken sulfur, hydrogen, oxygen, cabon, nitrogen and fused it to create aminos acids which then create prtoine, it's all a theory, since no one has ever done it).
It was all random and happened accidentlly without any willfull intent by the Cosmic Casino that threw a lucky 7 and made MAN and EARTH accidently.
And then these proteins and single cells devoloped and evolved over eons and one day they turned into MAN, one again we have no concrete proof of this, we have not "links" between man and single cell animals, no fossels, no DNA and no video recordings, but we "think" this how it happened, take it on faith.
Now, that's about 5 minutes to deal with the Scientific Theory.
The Religious theory is there is a ultra super intellegente being we call God that has always existed and will always exist, because God is eternal and God decided (why, we don't know, he never really told us) to create the universe, the Earth, animals, plants and Man.
He did this organically with his own essence (breath) and the microbes and bactrium from the Earth (soil).
God made man, much like man makes a TV set, XBox or House.
These things, obviously, don't happen RADOMONLY, nor do they EVOLVE. You don't find Xboxes growing on trees, nor can you put parts from RAdio Shack into a box and shake them for a million years and spill out an IPOD.
All that man has, as a matter of fact, comes from CREATIONAISM. That's how Motts makes every jar of Applesauce taste like the one before it and the next one.
Jars of applesauce don't randomly grow on trees, they are grafted, cultivated, worked on by botonists and horitculturalists, and the pulp is process, flavored, sweetened and colored.
Most of the process of making apple sauce is done by unskilled people making minimum wages who push buttons in plants to make creation happen after someone tells them to START WORK.
That took about 5 minute also
We are now through with our "theortical" lessons and can get on to learning something about science you can ACTUALLY prove in a school rooms with test tubes, beakers, chemicals, devices on a repeated basis, unlike BIG BANG and Evolution, which can't be done with litmus paper.
AND as for time, remember all things are relative.
If you are 18 and your 36 year old mother travels to Alpha Centuri at about half the speed of light you will be 38 when she returns to Earth and she will be 37.
6 days for one can be 6 years or 6,000 years or 6 million years for another. Especially if you are an eternal being.

I have no problem with evolution being taught as a theory in school, but by the same token if they can't present fairly both sides of the debate, how are they any better than what they accuse the Fundamentalists of from brainwashing the children by presenting only their side of the theory, and not allowing them to make up their own minds?
Ya can't have it both ways and be fair, guys.

first of all don't ever call your country little, that's how they take over by creationism. second don't ask stupid questions like how god did it. he won't answer. three r + a d it would not take longer that 2 min. it would take 6 x day and one days worth of rest. which gets to my point. creationism is not a sceince, the grand canyon was not formed in a day by a great flood which is part of the teachings of creationism. if i was a child in school and had a choice between a farie tale and reality guess what i would choose.

I live on a tiny island, and my son goes to a Baptist school that teaches creationism. He and a few other students realize that it is a waste of time and that they should be taught the truth. All the other textbooks as well are Christian textbooks. So you get convoluted logic like this: since there is a troposphere and stratosphere and other spheres that protect the earth from the sun's radiation, this shows that God created the earth and that the earth is not an accident.
My opinion is that creationism is big money for the Christian masses who have never seriously studied evolution.
And blah blah blah.

I often wish I could be bringing my kids up in a more enlightened society like Holland. It is such a shame that what was once a great nation looked up to by the rest of the world, is now being laughed at for its reluctance to let go of its backward superstitious beliefs

It should be taught (high school level) as a cultural phenomenon in social studies classes. The same way that we teach how about how people used to fight and kill over the sun centered model of the solar system.
It's important to know because it really exists and is a real problem in the US today. It is also important that people understand why Creationism is NOT science.

very funny
6 days refers to 6 periods of time ,
there were no clocks and a night is but refering to a period of changlessness ,imagine a vidio of grass growing ,same same =night ,then a new day the grass growing ,or plants if you will ,then the next 'day' is the next change say life ,fisn etc , i know not to argue with a dutchman they all have one foot in/on the water and the other on the see
making your own land ,dosnt mean god didnt make your clay,
you know the dutch heaven actually has a veil so people cant see into it from on high?
i couldnt convince you but lets be fair and give the children the facts of the matter and let them choose what they chose to believe.
to phrase the questions as to what the science says in theory and what thier religion says.why silence the debate let them have facts and theory and the debate.

i don't think creationism or evolution need to be taught, its not necessary to know the anatomy of a frog by its creation, or accidental, just teach them where the heart is, and what a carbon atom is, at that point they can go to a university of their choice that teaches religious science or secular science. problem fixed!!! thomas
