Do you sometimes feel like you are living in the dark ages?? (i know i do)

Creation! A Politician is better of lying that he is a Christian. At least in the west we have a voice. Do you feel sad that in so much of the world you can't even speak against God?

Living in Holland, I only have this feeling when I come online.

Where I live, I met my first religious person when I was 16. The second one I met when I had reached my 20's.

But reading on this website, Yahoo!Answers...yes, it sure makes me feel like the dark ages on this planet are far from over.
It's sad, really.

There are times that I wonder why and atheist or agnostic would even be on this sight. I mean, it is about religion and spiriuality. Since those two things are non-existent in their eyes, why are they always on this section of yahoo answers. Why are they always here? I can only suppose that their beliefs are not as concrete as they say or they are worried the christians are really the ones to look to and the atheists are hedging their bets. What really gets me is the fact that I am so busy living my dark age christian life that I don't have time to do that much dwelling on their beliefs and practices. The only time is when I am on this sight. If any of you non-believers think that there should be more control on religion and believers in this country, remember that those same laws will inhibit your (non) beliefs also. As for someone speaking against God, I have no problem with anyone doing so, as long as they are not attacking me personally or my beliefs. A persons right to speech guarantees them the right to say anything that does not infringe on anothers rights to do so also. So speak out against God all you like, be an atheist or anything else you like. That is your right. But if you really believed there was no God and you are in total control of your life, you would not even bother with us little christians and our so-called fake God.

i quote andrew
''Have you ever wondered why God didn't want Adam to eat from the tree of knowledge? I have always wondered... and now I see that it is an outstanding allegory for life.

Adam had everything he could ever want in that garden, anything except the fruit from the tree of knowledge. But he was tempted by a woman to eat. Upon eating of the fruit, they realized they were naked. Then they were banished from paradise and sent to work the fields themselves, a hard life of toil and sweat. The life they lived was now in separation from God.

Belief in the omnipotent and omnipresent has many appealing characteristics. The possibilities seem endless, like ANYTHING could happen. You feel as though you could eat of any fruit you so desire to attain fulfillment, except in a tempting life of "sin" and knowledge. Upon growing up, one is endowed with a mind of his own. He/she begins to question, he/she begins to reason, he/she begins a journey to find the TRUTH. Upon feasting on this knowledge, I have come to the conclusion that this omnipotent/omnipresent being does not exist. I have been shed of my spiritual clothing. The knowledge of this has banished me from his comforting presence in my heart, which had given me hope and comfort as a child, with the understanding that he would help me and love me if I was good. Now that I face the reality of separation from the paradise of believing you can obtain the impossible. I am faced with reality. My life will now be in my own hands, which is a lot harder than just having it given to you, like in paradise. You must toil and sweat to make your own fate.

So why would God not want you to eat of the tree? Upon eating of the tree he no longer exists in your heart. Knowledge is Satan.

Faith, even in something that isn't there, is a comforting thing that most people need. Life is hard knowing what you see is what you get. However, I am strong and am glad my fate rests in my hands.''

Kind of. I mean, we have the internet and modern agriculture and advanced medical science... but in the political arena... yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm living in the dark ages.

Living all my life in freedom I can only imagine how those who cannot express their thoughts aloud would feel. I think it would be a difficult thing. And yes where ever freedom of choice is prohibited it's sad, no matter the issue.

Yes. While historians claim that the world went through the Age of Enlightenment, in my opinion we haven't gotten close yet.

Yes, but I think we are progressing slowly but surely away from religion. However, the politicizing of science and evolution in particular is a big problem in the US. Science curriculum should be determined by scientists, not conservative lobbyists.

Sometimes. When I drive through Oklahoma, I can almost hear the witches burning.

Not quite, I don't fear being burned alive or thrown off a cliff tomorrow. But ignorance is obviously still a problem.
