Would you be able to see the t.v. screen well if the front projection t.v. was in a living room with only blinds to block out the sunlight?

We need at least a 65 in. t.v. (We have a large living room). The one we have broke. We plan on getting a front projector for our movie in the basement but have a friend staying down there right now. So would it work in an area where the sun can shin?

sorry... it was suppose to say "movie room" up there. And once the friend moves it would be placed in the movie room. :)

The newest projectors put out quite a bit of light, and can be viewed in rooms that are not completely dark. Blinds are probably ok unless sunlight is falling directly on them. The screen is also important; if you get a screen designed to work with the projector, you will have better results. For the best quality projectors in a "reasonable" price range, check out Sony's "Pearl" (VPL-VW50) http://www.hometheaterblog.com/hometheater/2006/08/sony_pearl_vplv.html and the new JVC D-ILA http://www.aboutprojectors.com/JVC-DLA-RS1-projector.html. 65 inch is really at the lower end of screen size for front projectors. For that size, a rear projector like the Sony SXRD is less expensive and will work in a brighter room environment.

projection TV's are never really ideal... they are attractive to most though just because of their size. A 42" LCD is the way to go, plenty big enough, with superb resolution and contrast, and a wide range of viewing angles. projections always dull out fast when you start looking at them from any direction other than head on
