I've heard it pronounced, "Trump" as in "The Donald" and "Ole" as in the exclaimation a bullfighter gives as he dodges the horns. But then again, I live in R.I and we do pronounce things rather strangely.

Tromp loy. The last "l" is silent. It's french for fool the eye. Paintings that are made to look real: like a window or a hole in the ceiling, an actual three dimensional scene.

I think I am the only French speaking person in the place, so I will answer your question. First of all, the good way of writing it is TROMPE-L’ŒIL. Now, for the pronounciation, it is difficult to explain it to a non-francophone without speaking but I will try... The closest I can get to your english reference is that you pronounce «trump-lheuy». Roll the R as a latin speaking person ; it is not a «smoothy» R as you are used to.

"tromp-loi" means "to fool the eye" so it would be to some degree an optical illusion (usually of depth)

Spaghettios. Damnit I did it again. And when I write it on the shopping list (my daughter loves them) I always forget the a for some reason and go straight to the g. When I type it I leave out the e for some reason.
