I have a 7 and 1/2 year old female dog and she did this also when we adopted her less than a year ago. DON'T let your dog do this. As silly as it sounds, she is trying to establish dominance over anyone she does it to, including other pets. If you allow her to do it, she will think she is boss and won't listen to commands - it can really make her behavior a problem in the long run. Tell her "no" in a very firm voice and let her see by your face that you're not pleased - dogs only want to please. Although it's normal instinct, it's not a behavior that you should allow for a family pet. They may outgrow it, like others said, however that will only be because they feel they have the dominance over you and so they no longer do it - the damage in their behavior will already be done.

Any gender of dog can hump...it's to show dominance, so some female dogs will hump another female dog or even a male dog to show dominance. Just stop her while she's young, tell her a firm no or go to a puppy class for basic manners
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW BABY!

Oh gosh my dog is 8 years old, toy poodle, female. She still humps everything, counting shoes.. I'm not sure if getting her spade would help, but I think so

It sounds weird, but your puppy is behaving normal. In reality she not trying to perform a sexual act. It's a dominating issue. That's why you'll see a male dog trying to hump another male. He is not gay, but trying to show the other male dog that he is boss. Your pup will out grow this behavior. Laugh and enjoy her now because she'll grow up fast.

I have never heard of a female dog doing that. I wonder if it may be a poodle thing. Good luck with your puppy.

My spayed female does it all the time to my other dog and it still seems strange to me. She is a very dominant dog so I bet yours is too.
