Because most governments don't take global warming seriously or prefer to ignore it. They believe that economy and politics are more important topics than the environment and they are not willing to fund big environmental projects.
Most people don't really understand how serious things are getting. They don't believe in what they don't see, and they don't understand that the day that the consequences of global warming will be visible we will all be one step too close to destroying our planet.
If you feel so concerned you should just do your part. Cars do pollute the environment but there are so many little things that can also make a difference if more of us did them. Try to walk more, use public transportation, share a ride, recycle, don't waist energy, plant a tree..

How can you in one sentence say something like "we the people, .... us the citizens..... and then expect your government to solve all of your problems for you ? sorry, I dont subscribe to any such socialist agenda. Mankind, human endeavor, etc. are best served by private sector ingenuity, at the heart of which is capitalism. If it were viable, and people really valued it, then someone would make such a device and people would be standing in line to buy it. It's absurd to think that automakers are to blame, or that they for some deep dark conspiratorial reasoning are holding back such technology etc. It frightens me even more when I see the politicizing of Gore's kook theories and the fact that people buy into such nonsense. Yes, the earth is warming, and yes it has went through cooling cycles and yes we should conserve our natural resources, preserve the environment etc. The earth is a giant methane generator, most of it escapes into the atmoshphere and is not used by man, you cannot turn the tide of that. The kook leftist global warming nuts are really steering us towards a world governed society, that is what is driving this nonsense. Sorry, as a kid I grew up in fear of the next ice age, again, pushed by some politicians and their alledged learned "scientists". Only, you see, the problem then was human generated pollution was heading us towards a ice age and that was only thirty years ago. Pardon me, but Jane Fonda sitting on a north vietnamese anti aircraft gun offends me as much as the kook left does promoting their mantra of self hate that they believe all americans should conspire to. So, when Gore and Streisand et al ad nauseam tell us to conserve, what they really mean is for YOU to conserve while they jet overhead in their gulfstreams. I guess a true environmentalist would have to commit suicide ( though in a very environmentally sound way), after all, they believe mankind to be the enemy of nature and our planet. Anyone not doing so is just a poser.

You must not even be old enough to drive if you think cars are the cause of global warming. They may be a very small, infintesimal cause, but natural processes are THE cause and neither you nor I can stop it by driving a hybrid car. You can't turn the sun into a hybrid. You can't explain why there was an ice age that warmed up thousands of years ago. You can't explain why Al Gore was a keynote speaker at the Wealth Expo in San Francisco last summer whose speech was about profiting from global climate change...well, you could but that would mean calling him and his movement a fraud. He is, you know.

this is a sad fact. but just imagine if you were to replace every single car on earth with hybrids, imagine how much cars would be scraped!!! How about those in other less-developed countries? However, the world health body should announce subsidies for hybrids. As for u, u can do your part by buying a car with the least cc and weight. this would help to lower fuel consumption. switch off lights when not in use EVERYTIME. Even for 5seconds maybe even 1 second. imagine how much will be save in the LONG RUN, not short term.

American manufacturers and the US Government are taking action. World pollution from other countries is the greater problem from coal burning facilities (China is a big offender). Check out the new Flex-fuel engines for large SUVs that run on Bio-diesel. Buy stock in OTD (O2Diesel). They are making biodiesel for the US Government and commercial fleets throughout the world.
The government could do more by reducing our foreign trade deficit by creating policy that shifts our buying US made products and cars. The US demand for foreign goods is fueling foreign countries demand for cheap energy. These country choose cheap and dirty methods for energy production and have little concern for air quality. Most of our pollution problem is not created in the US. It drifts here from over seas. US facilities run a clean ship by scrubbing exhaust to meet Federal and State air quality standards.

One cannot take any drastic measures in this regard. The best thing we can do, is to create enough conciousness among people. So that they prefer environment friendly car over a traditional one. More people buys HYBRID car, more the price will come down. It's like ckicken-n-egg problem.

Don't stop using cars as experts say that it's too late to reverse the whole process. If people stop using cars,it's going to be a shock for the worn out ozone layer and all may collapse in a week or two. It's a theory named Gaia. You can read more on google.

its' all about "money" and "profits"....businesses who profit from making any kind of vehicle is going to look at the global warming and shake their heads, and deny that we have a problem, only because the color of money has blinded them from the truth...I only hope that one day, when our earth is either under 20 feet of ice, or sizzling like an egg in a frying pan, that these big-wigs and their car factories keep them either warm, from the ice, or protected from the heat, in the end!!....we're doomed....

Thats a really great question. I think they arent doing anything right now to prevent global warming, because it would cost way too much for the US right now, and we are in such debt already.
