You're not supposed to retract it forcefully, you can cause damage. I found a great article for you from the canadian parenting magazine today's parent. Here's the link:

This article is titled "Private Lessons
Caring for kids down under" I hope it helps answer your questions.

Contact your childs doctor, on call nurse or take them to an urgent care center to be certian you are treating it in the proper way. Seriously, I know if my children were having sensitivity like you have described that is the first people I would contact.

No offense to anyone who's answered but I would not trust the advice of an online questions board when it comes to something that sounds like needs a professionals expierence. Be smart.

You don't need to do anything as invasive as peroxiding your son's penis! (Do you use peroxide to clean your genitals? Think of how that would sting!) If his foreskin has not yet retracted on its own, leave it be, and gently clean the area with a soft washcloth and warm water, just like the rest of his body. If a soap is used, it should be mild and care should be taken to rinse very carefully and completely to avoid irritation.

I have to say, the opinion on not to retract it isn't necessarily a good one. You have to pull it back to clean it, but don't force it. Men, who are uncircumsized, pull it back to clean it. My step son had to get circumsized at 6 years old because his mom didn't pull him back at all to clean him and the head of his penis closed to the point where he could hardly pee at all. I would weigh my pros and cons and speak to a doctor about them. I didn't get my son circumsized either but I refuse to not pull him back to clean him. I don't force it but this way, I avoid infections and future problems. Good Luck, I hope I was of some help.

do you mean foreskin.. I can explain it as I have cleaned many ( I work in a hosptial) but I am not sure if that is what you are asking... if it is email me and I will explain in detail... If it is sore, it might be starting an infection and need to be cleaned now.. should be cleaned every bath or shower.
