My understanding is that, when Uri Geller did his psychic thing for a bunch of credulous physicists, that's what inspired The Amazing Randi to start his crusade.

He realized that they weren't qualified to judge -- since electrons, however odd their behavior, don't try to fool anyone.

Since he knows how to make "amazing" things happen (or seem to), he realized it was his skills and knowledge that were needed to show up the "psychic" crowd.

Saw a great documentary about his work some years ago. He worked with (willing) psychics to develop genuine, sound tests of their "abilities".

Of course, they always had good excuses why things didn't work as they said they would.

I bet that whatever-it-is still sits under his bed, the prize money unclaimed. Any true psychic work his salt could get a nice handful o' cash, just by intuiting what it is. Funny, with all the psychics around, I wonder why no one has done so.

;-)

I really admire that dude. He started a movement.

Because they can do God’s tricks better than God can. And, that might explain God’s absence from the miracle-making club meetings for the last 2000 years.

Do you ever wonder if Jesus was just another illusionist? I know I didn't answer your question, but this just seemed appropriate.
