Dowry system is a financial help given by the parents to the newly wed couple to start a new life. Over a period of time it changed many forms.200 years ago in India, and in Arab countries now, its the bride's family which got the money because there was a shortage of girls. It was called "Kanyasulkam" or bride's money. Old men started "buying" young girls till this practise was socially stopped. Over a period of time it changed to the bride's parents giving money, utensils, household items etc to the bride to start a new family. since mst of Indians lived in joint families, the father of the groom took over the items. The dowry system if in cash is legally prohibited and is a cognizable offence. Gifting of household goods is acceptable.

those pig head n greedy in lows r not going to let u live Ur life happily ever after they will make troubles in Ur martial life as Ur hubby will to be part of this idiotic drama like Kinko kinda
they will ask u to bring car or bike from Ur mika or some cash for ur hubby's gift
people who give dowry are ill n sick mentally they r caverd n don't have courage to let their daughter live happily in her life by getting educated n being independent
n people who asks for dowry what could i say about them they r greedy animals want everything from brides home on the so call name of happiness of bride
