so in my home, there is a huge jar of M&Ms, a jar of peanuts, and a box of crackers out in the open.

my mom won't let me hide them, so everytime i walk by them, i feel tempted to eat some. and i can't exactly not walk by them, because if i'm moving from one room to the other, i see them. and once i start eating them, i just keep eating and eating and eating them.

what are some things i can do mentally to stop myself from falling into the food trap?

i've tried writing about how food makes me feel, and how certain junk foods make me feel, and it does work. but only for a short amount of time. what else can i do?

You need to have a heart-to-heart talk with your Mom. She knows those things aren't good for you. They shouldn't be out where you see them all the time and are tempted. Ask her if she would drink in front of an alcoholic, or offer them booze. She should be helping you to stay away from the junk food, not making it harder to eat healthy.

Keep a jar of really hot salsa around and when you get tempted, eat a big spoonful of the salsa. It'll turn off your appetite.

Just tell yourself it isn't worth it and you have stronger will power.
You'll feel really proud of yourself that you didn't give in.
