To risk or even lose your life for another when there is no time to think, in other words based on sheer reaction, or to have time to assess the situation beforehand, and to risk or lose your life anyway in behalf of a fellow human being?

I ask because of this gentleman, Wesley Autrey, a man who I am so in awe of that I have no words. A hero if ever there was one. Google him. I have no doubt you'll be in awe too! I was thinking of him and Jesus. The difference is that Jesus knew his plight well before hand. Knew and walked willingly to his death. This man had no time to think. Does that make his courage any less? No. I don't know that I would have done it. Probably not. Especially with my two little girls, very little, standing there beside me. This man is truly a remarkable human being.

I just read that story a few hours ago. I think it would be easier to spontaneously do some thing like that than to think about it and give yourself time to decide not to do it. But that doesn"t mean Autry is any less a hero. No greater love is there than to lay down your life for someone. I think that applies to either situation.

I have two kids, so this is not so hard for me to answer as for some maybe. See, if you have people especially little people, depending on you for their survival, you are not so expendable, or just able to be risky with your own life.
