Many Christians I have spoken with will tell me that their spiritual relationship with God is the most important thing. It tells them how to interperate the bible, when something is right, etc.
Now I have always had a relationship with God, since I was a child and didn't know who God was supposed to be. (Please don't thumbs down me for this, I am speaking from the heart)
My relationship with God has led me to believe that the bible is innacurate or poorly worded because those things do not convery the God I know.
I really gave Christianity a go for a while (several very devoted years) but it just did not sit right with me.
After much searching I believe Jesus was a man extremely connected with God, but no more than we can be if we try. I am very inspired by hearing stories of people who have that connection in general. I believe Ghandi did from what I have read of his works. He seems to speak of the same version of God I know.
What do you think of my relationship with God?

I do not go to church. This is just between me and God.

I whole-heartedly agree with what you say. I guess you will by now agree with me that no written book can ever convey the joy and love that God truly is. And I also agree with you that Jesus was just another man who was connected with God at a much higher level than common man. And that we can do it too, if we really try.
I have been brought up in a very spiritual but non-religious environment, and I used to think similar things in childhood. I follow my own religion and have my own definition of God, put together from all my observations and lessons in life.

I'm sorry you feel that the bible is "innacurate", maybe instead of talking to people, you could talk to a pastor about your feelings on why you think the bible is innacurate. If you simply think that the bible is poorly written, try getting it in a different verson. Personally i like the NIV, while my husband likes NKJV. That can make a big difference as far as the "wording". Have you looked into a study bible? That will give you factual information on scripture.
As far Christinity not sitting right with you how many churches and denominations did you try? They all pretty much have the same basic beliefs but in other area's they can differ. My husband was raised southern baptist and sang hyams, where i sang more upbeat music, and wore pj's to church. It took us almost 2 years to find a church and denomination that suited us, so it's something you really have to work at and pray about.
As far as Jesus being a normal man who was just extremely connected to God, I totally disagree with you. I believe that Jesus was God's son, a part of God, and I also believe that the bible is 100% true.
I am glad that you have a relationship with God, but i suggest that you go and talk to a pastor about all of these things. Call a few well known churches and make a few apointments and talk to a few different churches on these subjects, they will beable to help you out the most and be able to give you and or guide you to reliable answers to your questions.

EW EW EW... I love answering religion questions...
ok... The Old Testiment... throw that out; the 10 commandments that Moses received on Mt. Sinai... well simply put... Those were all canceled when Jesus Christ was crusified on the cross; bottom line!
Now is the bible an accurate approach to God and Religion... I will tell you no, but others will say it is. Funny thing is, a few hundred years ago, the Vatican (Pope and the Cardinals and Bishops) would meet and would actually go over the bible and choose what is correct and not correct).
Next, ok... many of us have seen the movie "The Da Vinci Code"... ok, but how many of us own a picture of Da Vinci's work "The Last Supper" prior to seeing the movie, how many of us realized... oh snap, there is a woman in the picture... And oh snap, where is the "Holy Grail"...
Ok, I'm getting deep now...as far as your relationship with God... here is just my opinion, as long as you don't use the Lord's name in exteme activities, like kiling in his name... Then I think whatever religion you choose, is ok. Why? Because you still believe in a "form" of God; which is the creator of the heaven's and the earth, is he not?
Good luck.

Don't listen to these people who keep mocking you. I went through a similar situation (with a different outcome). I too was raised a Christian, but I could no longer accept the Bible as the word of God after taking a critical look at it. Eventually I ended up converting to Islam. The only reason that I am mentioning this is that because I feel it actually connects quite nicely to your story. You said "After much searching I believe Jesus was a man extremely connected with God, but no more than we can be if we try.". Oddly enough, this is exactly what Islam teaches us. For Shi'a Muslims (though not Sunnis), we believe that reaching a state of spiritual and mental perfection is NOT impossible (though undoubtedly incredibly difficult). The difference between prophets and common men is that prophets did attain that stage. The reason Islam was sent down to us was as guidance to reaching that stage. Point in case-- I believe that if you keep searching for truth, you can become more and more connected with God. I think realizing that the Bible is very poorly written was quite a large step in your search.

I am a Christian and let me try to answer your question.
Firstly, I appreciate the fact that you WANT TO have a relationship God.
Secondly, Christianity is not just a religion that you would TRY. A relationship is built by both parties. You mentioned that the Bible may sound inaccurate because they don't convey the God you know. Maybe true. That doesn't not make the Bible inaccurate.
God should be related to without any preconceived notions. Get to know GOD from the Bible.
Please remember that God is real and the Bible is the REAL WORD OF GOD and it cannot be inaccurate. If it was, then God is flawed, but He isn't.
We can never be like Jesus because when He was on earth, He was both God and man...He was NOT a created being...we are.
Think about it, but if you feel my answer is not sufficient, do let me know.
Meanwhile, know that GOD wants to relate to you, but the only channel to God is through Jesus Christ.

I was raised a catholic and went to catholic schools. I still believe in God, but am torn now as an adult on how much I believe now. I want to believe, it gives humanity something to hope for, but at the same time I keep thinking what if it is all a hoax, and there is nothing. I am at a point in my life where I think that I am just torn and need to find myself. I feel that I am doing the right thing by raising my children with the belief of God, I feel that it instills ethics and morals, but do find myself questioning things a lot lately. Especially now with all the hate in the world.
You should follow your heart and go with what you believe. If you have a relationship with God, it does not matter the religion.

I think a person's relationship with God is one of the most private and intimate of relationships, and not for others to judge.
With that said, I have to admit that yours sounds a bit like mine.
I was raised in a Christian church, and I still identify with Christianity, but I am not a person who attends church or ever will again. I just see too much I disagree with in organized religions. Every time I find one that sounds appealing, I dig a little deeper, and bam! I run into something that I completely don't agree with.
The God I know is a Being of love and forgiveness and mercy. I know I will get blasted by a lot of people for saying this, but He doesn't run around and punish "sinners" for "disobeying" Him. Instead, He understands what is in each person's heart, and understands each person's limitations, and loves them anyway, and forgives with open and loving arms, because He understands that making mistakes is part of what people do. I honestly believe He is more interested in how we treat one another as humans than if we read the Bible or attend worship services, etc. I also believe that the religious distinctions we humans see (he's Christian, but she's Jewish, blah, blah, blah) don't even matter to Him. He just wants us to be as good as we can be, to feel free to turn to him both in good times and bad, and to learn to love others and treat them well.
So, what do you think of my relationship with God??

To me, God is my life guide silently working away in the background and when I am not sure which path to choose or how to make amends for something I may not have done wisely or well he is there to talk to and help me. It's definitely a personal thing and I just know that since reengaging with God I make better choices which has improved things overall and given me a sense of grounding I did not have before.
It does not sound like you currently have a relationship with God and maybe you need to look at what that connection means in your everyday life and start from there.

The Bible is one of the best books there is to learn about God. We can be very connected with Jesus. You have to have very strong faith and believe it with all of your heart. God has performed many miracles here today. And the power of prayer is awesome. But it is what is in your heart for you to believe. People have many different ways on worshiping and believing in God but it is all the same. You really have to find a church that really believes in the works and miracles of God. It sounds like your church wasn't speaking the word in a way for you to understand or to get your belief stronger. My church is helping me grow stronger spiritually. And I am very glad of that. For I know without God nothing would happen. You just have to believe and keep the faith.

I think that it is good that you are spiritually aware of a being greater than yourself.. However He was accused of blaspheming many times by the pharisees and Rabbis.. He told people that there sins were forgiven.. Something only the Son of God had the power to do. In some ways though I think it is a choice.. Maybe your God is not the same God as the one in the Bible...?? Just a thought.
