I have always found that the "slicker" brushes work best for cats with medium length coats. These are the brushes that are square, flat and have bent metal bristles. Here's a photo of one: http://www.exoticnutrition.com/images/slicker%20brush.jpg . The come in various sizes, but you want the small one for cats, rabbits and small dogs. If you have a very short haired cat like an Oriental breed, you don't want this kind of brush. If you have a long haired cat, you may also want to buy a mat comb which will help you cut through any matted fur. Regular grooming will help reduce shedding, matting and hairballs. Good luck.

There is a brush Walmart sells called Shed Ender. It actually does a good job at getting alot of the loose hair off my cats.

Hi there...we recently decided to try a similar deshedding comb product like Shed Ender® called Bamboo Deshedding Comb which is only $14 at PetSmart and it works incredibly well for both short and long hair cats. We brushed our cats daily with it for a week and once a week thereafter and our cats rarely shed as much as they used to even using a slicker brush. It requires a little bit more effort, but if you are willing to commit to doing it for a week daily you will notice a tremendous difference.

try a rubber glove, put it on (your hand) and gently stroke your cat and that should get the loose hair off.
