When you were married you made the promise to be with them through thick and thin. Are you in shape? Do you go to the gym? Do you invite your spouse? If you haven't tried to help then you can't complain. Promoting exercise together would be great motivation for your significant other. You should be their main support system. Get the fatty crap out of the house. Only buy healthy groceries. Stop buying sodas, sweets, and greasy food. Buy a healthy gourmet cook book that shows the nutrition facts per meal. Give your spouse motivation to work out. Show them how much you care for them no matter what. Try to find out the reason they don't want to exercise. Buy a family membership to a gym and make goals for each other.

I think it might be a good idea to reread your vows. If they were this way when you married them then why are you upset now? I think it's unfair that a person waits to get married and then try to change things about a person. You shouldn't date or marry a person that does too many things that are a turn off for you. Also why would you wait until they need you to duck out? Is that your way of the biggest "I told you so"? If this a problem for you then you should address it now. Let your spouse know that you are willing to leave over it and he/she is unwilling to change then stand by your word and leave. Still you need to reread your vows. You had a chance to say no I will not stick around through sickness and health.

You can't force anyone to do anythign that they don't want to do. But you might try using a carrot instead of stick.

If you do decide to divorce her, it will be because you can't cope with not controlling her. Is that really the type of person that you want to be known as, and for the rest of your life?

The agreement does state "in sickness and in health," it doesn't specify whether or not your spouse should or shouldn't be to blame for that sickness. It's not like being married to a drug addict or alcoholic where their behavior is immediately unsafe or unstable, they're just food addicts. There are a lot worse things than being married to a fatty!!

That just sounds like an excuse. You made a commitment, for better or worse. I think that would be giving up to quick. And it'd be kinda of cold hearted to leave him when he got sick, maybe he needs to get sick before he gets better.

If you are miserable being in a relationship with someone because of a lifestyle that will cause health problems, emotional, sexual and identity problems the longer it goes on...I would give a subtle ultimatum, do my own thing and the relationship will take it's own course.

You can't change anyone, however you can motivate them to want to change if you stick with them and don't give up on them, sometimes. Face it, most of us have some type of unhealthy habit. I smoke and I know it is unhealthy, but it is very hard to try and quit.
