If it changes you opinion I don't think that means you are being judgemental. It would change my opinion bc a doctor of all ppl should be the one preaching to the choir that your body is your temple. If u smoke that means you don't treat your body as such, so how are u going to give me your opinion on something. I even wonder many times when nurses are overweight then try to tell you what u need to be doing, lol.

Yes. That is such a good point. If I knew or found out my doctor smokes I would drop that Dr immediately because they should know better, not to smoke. I wouldn't trust that the doctor is concerned with health and wouldn't be concerned with my overall health.

No. My doctor smokes, and it does not effect my opinion of him.
He is a great Dr., and I will not see anyone else.
I choose a Dr. based upon his or her qualifications, how well they treat me, how well the listen to your concerns, and how much time they are willing to spend with you to make sure that your medical concerns are taken care of.
Regardless of if they smoke or not, this does not effect the care I would receive. In fact, the way I see it is that if you would not go to a Dr. just because they smoke, that is kind of prejudice.

My co-worker in college had a cousin (so she said)...
who was a med student. He did the dissection of the human that docs have to do, and he found the most disgusting balck lungs.
He quit for three months...
and went back.
I've quit so many times...
So, as a non-smoker, I remember those days. I would have found another one.
But now I get it. Hey, we're all human. It's notthe messenger, it's the message. It's not the addiction, it's the information that's relevant to the patient.

not really for me. i mean would you care if your doctor didnt eat a healthy diet. what he does with his life has no direct effect on the way he practices medicine espceially if he is actually a good respectble doctor but im in and out of hospitals all day for my job and it always cracks me up to see em standing around outside smoking together

It wouldn't change my opinion. This may be a stress reliever since I imagine the amount of stress to be tremendous. Nicotine is the number one addiction, and I believe a Dr. could actually care about others, more than he cares about himself.

If he doesn't do it in front of me then it wouldn't bother me. He should know first hand about how smoking effects a persons health. No one is perfect. I would worry if I knew my doctor was hooked on crack.

Nope. You don't have to be a doctor to realize that it's bad for you and it's a cruel addiction. As long as your doctor is competent enough with his brains, I really wouldn't worry about it.

I think so. I think a doctor who is supposed to help others health, yet smokes, doesn't set a very good example.

I would indeed question my doctor's abilities if he or she smoked. It would hamper or diminish my confidence in him or her. It would be similar to having an overweight person be your diet counselor.
