Don't change his food, just give him less. He will live through it. Changing food makes them upset. If they were humans they would have hamburgers every meal. Cut back a half of a can a day or one cup less on the the dry stuff. I have had many dogs in my life. It has always worked for me.

Any high quality food specifed for weight loss will do. Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet are all good. Ask your vet what he/she recommends. And don't forget to change the diet gradually or your dog could end up with some dietary indescretion. Also, remember that weight loss food has less calories so your dog may be more hungry. Don't feed more to compensate or this will just defeat the purpose. Giving him some veggies if he likes them is a good idea. Another suggestion, as strange as it sounds....try putting golf balls in his food dish with the food. It will make him have to eat around them and thus will eat slower. Just like with some people dogs will eat so fast the stomach hasn't had time to the brain it's full yet.

Do you leave food out for your dog all day? My mom's two dogs were on this free feed schedule and were very overweight. Once she stopped this and only put food down once per day (in the amount recommended on the bag- Iams weight control), one dog lost 5 pounds (significant for a cocker spaniel who is a runt and only supposed to weigh 16).

If your dog doesn't eat the food at first when it is put down, leave the food there for 20 minutes, then pick it back up. Your dog will quickly learn that s/he must eat the food when it is given to him/her.

Apple Cider Vinegar w/mother from the health food/vitamin store added to the dogs water daily naturally assists with weight loss and it has many other incredible bonuses like soft/silky coat, natural flea repellent etc. I add one teaspoon to my dane's water bowl every time i fill it up. However at first she wasnt to keen on the taste so i started off adding 2 or 3 drops at a time per bowl of water, until i got to a teaspoon. Go to the website listed below and check it out there are alot of testimonials to read on the benefits of ACV{apple cider vinegar}!!

what type of food are you feeding? you can talk to your vet and calculate how much and how many calories your dog needs for the day. if you need to back off on the food, but your dog acts hungry still you can add some canned green beans to suplement. they are fillers, and will fill up your dog without adding any calories. also take your dog to the vet and make sure there isn't a reason for the weight gain. a thyroid problem can cause added weight gaine, and your dog may need meds for this. but keep up the exercise! good luck.

Science Diet is really good. I have two english bulldogs and we have to watch their weight a lot. If you give your dog treats, a healthy treat for dogs is actually Cheerios.
You might also call your vet and ask which brand/type would work with your dog.
Hope I helped!

there are several diet dog food's on the market, follow the directions on the bag or can, and just give him alittle less than suggested for 1 month.
take him for extra walks, especially in the evening time.
god bless you.

Just cut what he is now eating by 1/3. See if that does the trick. Run a little farther.
