If you bought one of these antennas AND if you were in range of the signals, you would only be able to catch the broadcasters in your area. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, WB, PBS, etc. You would not be able to catch any of the cable channels like ESPN, TBS, CNN, etc.

The signals you caught, if being broadcast in HD would be HD. I use an indoor antenna with my Panasonic Plasma HDTV and have watched the NFL playoffs on FOX and CBS in HD. The quality is excellent.

Hi Def is not only the signal, but the capability of your TV. I have the hi def signal going to two of my TV's and one is a hi def TV and one is not. The hi def channels look better than the regular channels, but not nealy as good as they come on my hi def TV. I hope that helps.
