i've cleaned it with warm water & i've held the towel at the bump to try to aleve any itching. (although it doesn't itch her) the cleaning didn't bother her, it just looks weird. she's going to the groomer friday so i'll ask them to express her anal gland.

you should take her to the vet before the groomer. the vet can tell you if it's just a cyst, an anal glad abcess or a tumor. might require antibiotics to clear up, or needs to be removed. the vet needs to be your first stop. good luck.

Could possible be her anal glands. They need to supress them and squeeze out the fluids that can become poisonous if left unattended. I would not recommend you squeezing them yourself, as it is VERY foul. Take her to the vet and have it checked out. Could be the anal glands or some sort of tumor.

I agree with the others who suggested a visit to the vet. My dog had a little bump around his anal area and we had our vet draw fluid from it. It turned out to be a very serious form of cancer. Because we caught it early, he is still with us and is in good health. Please don't leave it to the groomer to figure out. Good luck to your dog!

Groomers may try and do it for you, but it may not be the best course of action. they may not accually have the expertice, especally if it is infected. you don't want a rupture! go to the vet first. the groomer is not qualified to diagnose or treat a medical problem.

You have answered your own question. The groomer will do this for you. It's part of their job. No matter how gross it may be.
