Say you are on disability, and you had a lot of unforeseen things come up that caused you to be almost broke, your car quit on you and it cannot be fixed, because of lack of money, but you need blood pressure medicine, heartburn medicine, pain medicine, antidepressants, antibiotics, but the drug store doesn't deliver. You need to go to the doctor, grocery store, post office, etc, but you live in a rural area, with no taxi cabs. You don't have any friends nearby to take you anywhere. I am talking about now, and not later on down the line, because you need it now. Do you know of anything you would do?

1.Try contacting your city, county or state. In Chicago our medicare or medicaid provides transportation to and from Doctors and Hospitals, also our local transit authority provides transportation, and you can also purchase extremely low cost vouchers for taxi's. also they might put you in contact with volunteers, or home assistance for "people with disabilities living independently".
2. contact your local High School and see if they offer vocational studies, and you might me able to get your vehicle fixed for free or for a fraction of the cost.
3. Put an ad in your local newspaper, grocery store, laundromat, etc. for a teenager to run errands for you.
4. Since you are in a rural area, there should be a County office that could help you with your needs.
Good Luck, everything will work out, I hope some of the info I gave you helps.

Call your nearest social services office. Often there is an office in your local hospital. Explain to them what you explained here. They will be able to contact or put you in touch with the appropriate services, that will help with all your various needs. Also be sure to ask about your local food bank and how to manage without transportation.

If they aren't as helpful as you need, contact any other social service agencies in your area. Also, contact your doctor and explain your problems with getting your Rx's filled. They may know of a service or be able to provide special help for you short term, until you're in better financial and transportation shape.

Also, you might consider contacting your local Salvation Army or other such organizations. Many have outreach programs, or know who does.

In other words, burn up those phone lines and don't leave one stone unturned. You never know you might even find a charitable group able to provide free or subsidized labour to repair your car. Don't know unless you ask.

Oh, don't forget to call the Govt disability offices. They may have a list of resources for you to tap too.

Best of luck to you.

I would call the nearest cities senior / disability center & ask about transit assitance - see if there are any shuttles.
Many towns have senior / disability shuttles that pick up people , drop them at doctors and markets, then take them home.
Then I would get off half of those meds because they could cause more problems than they solve .
(Antibiotics are only good for for a few weeks, . . . heartburn - find the cause and eliminate it , heartburn meds are also bad when used more than a few weeks)
good luck !

Go to the nearest hospital and tell them your in pain, without meds...and need to be admitted. Because of your circumstances, you shouldn't be charged anything. Then ask for a social worker to help with any options that available to you.
