Vet said he was not in good health and that his left eye didnt even look normal..I felt I was doing the right thing by having him put down but I feel terrible. He said there was no amount of money going to make it better. I feel soo sad over doing this.. We had him for only 24hours. Also, it was the 2nd vet that had seen him.Poor thing was only 4 weeks old and the mother stopped nursing it so thats why we had him so early in his life. Please someone ease my guilt. At least he was very loved what short time we had him.

I think you did the right thing. It's hard sometimes, but you have to realize that had you kept him alive, he would have lived a life of pain and difficulty. It's never fair to keep an animal alive for our own selfish purposes when they are obviously suffering. I work with dogs, and every day people bring me dogs that are barely able to stand or walk, cannot see or hear, have no teeth, have very little hair left, have seizures, etc. etc., and they refuse to put them to sleep because 'they just can't let go of their baby'. I think it's cruel and wrong. When an animal can no longer live a happy, fulfilling life, free from pain or discomfort, it's time to let it go, no matter how old or young it may be.

I'm sorry you were faced with this decision, but I'm glad you chose to end his suffering. It takes a strong person to do that.

You did the right thing.

If the mother stops nuring one pup but still looks after the others it is usually a sure sign that the neglected pup isn't long for this world.

And having two vets confirm it should be proof enough to put your mind, and heart, at ease. It is sad. But a pup with so many health issues at so young an age can rarely recover and live normally.

It's never an easy decision to make, he was a blessing to have him your life for the few days that you did have him. It sounds like your vet thought it was the best thing to do and he did see two vets so you were a very good dog mommy. I am so sorry for your loss.

Mother dogs know when their pups won't make it, what you did saved that puppy from having a long, drawn out, painful death, and this is why euthanasia is a good thing. When an animal is beyond hope, unable to enjoy life, that is the time, for us, as thinking beings, to do the humane thing.
Your heart hurts, but you did the right thing. There will be more puppies, you did the best you could do for him.

That's an insult to shar pei dogs out there! For one they are a rare breed, and also as they grow the wrinkles disappear unlike Gordon's whose wrinkles seem to be increasing!

The mother knew that there was something not right, thats why she quit feeding him. You definately did the right thing here. It sounds like if you had tried to treat him he would still have a lot of problems and who knows whats to come that nobody knew about yet.

I am sure it was a very hard thing to do, but just know that it was the right thing.

You loved him and eased his suffering. I would have done the same thing in your position. A 4 week puppy would not have the strengh and reserves to fight and if you had tried you would have only prolonged his suffering. I used to be a vet tech and euthanasia is a quiet peaceful way to go.

How sad. You did what you could. Sometimes, I find those that die due to health reasons. Better you than someone who may have dumped it at the side of the road.Sometimes, I believe these animals find you because of your compassion. Was it right? We all forgive you, now it is time to forgive yourself. Give yourself some time.

I am so sorry. Sounds like he had lots of problems. I am sure you did what was right. Forgive yourself. The hardest part of having this done is the guilt and blame you pit on yourself. Like you said, you gave the little guy love for his brief life.
