A waltz is a type of dance done by couples to music that is written in 3/4 time signature. In waltz dance competitions the music is played quite fast, at about 180 beats per minute. In common ballroom dancing the music is usually played much slower.

Waltzes became popular in the first part of the 1800s and are still taught and enjoyed today by sophisticated dancers. Traditionallly the music for waltzes is very romantic and sensuous.
