i'm a tattoo artist do i don't know a lot about piercing, but i figured i'd share a story with you about nose studs.
i used to always wear the straight studs, they go in and come out very easily and that was always conveniant. the only problem was, i was always losing them cuz if i rubbed my nose, or wiped my face with a towel, or even if i left it in when i slept it would creep out of my nose, i was just always losing them. the last time i lost it, a few months ago, i was looking for another stud in the shop i work at, but the only ones there had like pink diamonds on em and stuff so i didn't wanna get that obviously. so the piercer took a long nose post and custom bent it to my nose, i guess this is what they call a nose screw. when he gave it to me he asked if i knew how to put it in. i said yeah, because how hard could it be. and it wasn't hard. but apparently people have a problems with this because why else would he ask. plus i've heard people since, including yourself, that have had problems putting them in. all i did was put it in straight, like it was a stud, and whenever it would angle, i would just twist it so it would be straight again. i guess just always make sure the part sticking out of your nose is at a 90 degree angle to your nostril and keep "screwing" it in slowly. i got mine in right away but i've has my nose pierced for 6 years so i guess it's just not sensitive anymore. i haven't lost this ring since, so that's a plus, the only thing i don't like it the part inside my nose sometimes with fall with gravity and you'll see a big silver loop hanging out of my nostril like a metal booger and i keep having to shove my finger in my nose to get it back in there and it's quite irratating. i prefered the straight stud, but like i said, i would lose them all the time. hope that helps. probably not, but hey, i tried.

Nostril screws are tricky if you haven't changed one before. You have to use a little bit of lube, like KY or something water based to make it easier to slide in. Insert the first straight piece of the screw into the hole....then, push downwards gently while twisting the screw in whatever direction it is bent (left or right) until you get to the 90* angle of it. Then all you need to do is navigate the angle and push it in.
You are usually better off asking a piercer for help the first time to make it easier.
Straight nose stud? Do you mean the one with the bulb on the end? Those are cute but usually not long enough in a younger piercing. Also, the bulb tends to be far too big and will tear your nose when you insert and remove it.

For me the nose bones will go in, but not always come out (they are straight bars with flared ends and look somewhat like a bone due to the flares). Continual removal and insertion will ruin the piercing and cause scarring.
There are also straight pin type nose studs and yes, they fall out rather easily.
Fish tail nose screws look L shaped and work well, but the bend in the jewelry can be uncomfortable for inserting and removing.
I prefer CBRs the most, but its a matter of what works for you best.
For the nose screw, you have to somewhat 'screw' or turn it as you push it in. The trick is to follow the jewelry's shape as you put it in. It takes some getting used to, so don't fret if you can't get it in right away or if you have to have your piercer help you.
Whatever you do, don't force it in and if the area starts to hurt or turn red or bleed, stop immediately, put the old jewelry back in and clean the area with soap and sea salt soaks for a week. Then you can try again.

If you're having issues, basically take it to your piercer and ask em to show you! :) They're always happy to help.
My personal favourite?? Nose bones. I had a L shaped nose stud for a while and it drove me nuts! I was always losing it when I rubbed my face with something or knocked it. Then entered the nose bone which looks like this: o----O basically the big bit is the one u want showing to the world and the little one holds it in place just on the inside of your nose. It hurts a bit getting it in because you have to force it through the hole which is slightly smaller than the little ball, but once it's in, unless you want it out, it ain't goin nowhere!! :D

I used to always wear a straight diamond stud in my nose (like 2pac only ... girly.) It eventually fell out after too many drunken nights, and I lost the damn thing.
I made the horrible mistake of taking out my stud put in my nose at the tattoo parlor way too early, just to try on some nice studs my Grandma gave me, and ended up NOT being able to screw the damn thing back in my nose. It ended up a bit infected, too. Naaaasty.
I had to continuously wear straight noserings to keep the hole from closing up.
I have NO IDEA how to get the nose screw in. I never figured out how. I would call the parlor that pierced it and asked them. It was hard as hell for me. It would NOT go in.
Nose rings are the sh*t.

The safest advice is take the new ring to your piercer! If you can't get something in do not try to force it. The trauma will make the end of the healing process start over. So put your old ring back in and take the new ring to your piercer and ask for help.

You can wear any kind of nose stud or ring, which you prefer.
Just be careful while changing and visit a jeweler if you face any problem.

the screw nose piercings can be a little daunting to put in a first. i remember the first time i tried to, and there was alot of blood and tears. i found that the screw ones come out way too easily.
i've recently gotten a bone type nose stud and it has not come out once.
check ebay for cheap, good quality nose studs.

I have used both. The straigh ones do tend to fall out, I lost 7 before I switched back to the hooked ones. Although they are more difficult, they are worth it. I would use some oil, like tee tree oil, or something of that sort to make it more slick sliding in, that is what I do, and it may bleed, but do not worry too much.
