well she may be "doing it to get attention" in your eyes. but heres a bit of advice from me to you. i've been a cutter for like 11 years (i'm 22). i never did it as an attention getter. people that cut usually keep it a secret at all costs. the ones that cut that like to show it off and get attention are the ones that have a big problem (maybe abuse at home, mental issues, sexual abuse...the list is so long and various).
when i was in school there was a girl just like the one you talked about. she and i were friends. i cut, and so did she. i kept it a secret, she did not. she had a lot of issues at home that she didnt know how to deal with: her mom's boyfriend beat her all the time, he molested her daily, her mom did nothing to stop him, or to help her. she was reaching out to anyone and everyone in hopes that someone could take her out of a situation that she couldnt change herself. it is obvious to me that this girl is in the same type of situation.
heres what u do: go to your guidance counselor at school and tell him/her what you know. they will take it from there. they know who to call, and what to say, and more importantly they can get her the help she needs.
even if this girl isnt having problems at home or anything, she still is crying out for help by telling people about her cutting. cutting is something very personal...those of us that show it off are looking for help.
good luck x...you are a great person, and a wonderful friend for being concerned for her and trying to get her some help.

Well, I self harm and I have friends and everything but it's a coping mechanism. You'll know that. Maybe she has problems at home or there's too much pressure on her. Whatever it is, I don't think it's a cry for help. But I do think you could approach her and tell her you used to self harm and will understand what she's going through. Atleast then maybe she'll talk to you instead of cutting so much. That's what I find most effective, if I have someone to talk to and just help me calm down.

My friend had that same problem, till some of my other friends told the teacher because they were worried for her to go too far. So the teacher spoke to them and the class about cutting themselves. Also, we've had an assembly about suicide and thinking about and slitting & taked about other ways we can do to makes us feel better other than attention & problems. So I'll say talk to your teacher or her mom, if she gets mad at you dont worry because shes going to thank you soon.
Take Care.

Even if she is only doing this for attention she needs help because that is so dangerous and she needs to stop. Tell someone in charge.

I hope you'll talk to the guidance counselor about this.
In addition, I just want to add that "cutting" is a response to low levels of beta-endorphins. Healthier ways of raising beta-endorphin are exercise, beauty, nature and meditation/prayer.
Perhaps you can befriend this girl and invite her for walks or to a place to practice meditation or prayer. Find out if she enjoys music and dance. Find out if she likes animals, like puppies and kittens and horses.

Thanks for caring about this girl.

If she is cutting she needs mental health.
About the only thing you can do is notify a counselor at school so they can reach the parents and guide her into some much needed counseling.

It's called "cutting" and it's very serious. I understand how life in school is and, if you don't want to be considered a big-mouth, go to your guidance counselor and tell him/her in confidence. They'll handle it from there without your name being mentioned.

Report this to a teacher or counselor. This is a red flag that something is going on with her.
You're a good person to care about other people!!

Tell her next time get serious, put the knife on the side of her throat and stab behind her voice box so as not to miss the artery. Guaranteed she wont be able to "show off" anything, ever. Tell her quit being stupid and be grateful for life itself.

Tell her shes a dumb ****** slut, who is attention starved because mommy and daddy never showed her any love. Trust me, her cuts will be deeper the very next day.
