Would dog beds work? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Dog beds are essential.
It's not gonna be easy if you already allow them on the furniture, but it's doable.

Put about 12 pennies or small rocks in a soda can and tape it closed.
When ever the dogs approach the furniture, shake the can. Generally dogs don't like the sound and will avoid the furniture to avoid the noise.
Just as important is to have somewhere they can lay down. Something you can point to and say "settle". Praise them when they are near the beds. Praise them when they are far away from the furniture, and praise them when they're on their beds.

You have to lock them up away from the furniture when you can't watch them. A bathroom or garage during the day and a crate at night.

There are lots of books on crate training. consider getting one.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMRMH

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Each time your dog tries to jump on the furniture remove and say nothing. If he tries to jump up again just keep removing him. If he stays on the floor praise him. This could take a while but it should work.

This may sound dumb but I give my dog their own char to lay in. I train them to not get on anything but their chair but smacking them with a news paper. That scares them but does not hurt, it's the noise. Then I cover the couch and other chairs with news paper on the cushions and they are afraid of the paper and they do not get up on it. The puppy I have now I just tought him that he has a chair and he stays off all the other stuff. And that is where he lays.
good luck! Oh and you can get a cheap chair at a yerd sale or on sale and cover it with a sheet to match the room.

when they get on the furniture make them get down and tell them off. and direct them to their dog beds. you can also get what's called a scat mat that emits a high pitched frequency when the dog gets on it. you place it on the furniture. but my dogs are allowed on my furniture, they just move when i ask them to. if you want to stop them when you're gone, put them in their crates.

buy a dog whistle. they are pretty inexpensive and just blow it when the dog jumps on the couch. you cant hear it but being dogs have better hearing than us, they definally hear it. Soon he will learn to associate the sound with not being allowed on the couch and this should solve your problem.
