I t will probably get worse. A couple of my friends struggled with this during high school. It started out small. At least one friend still struggles with it years later. Her health is messed up in many ways, and she recently had a failed pregancy. You can't force your friend to do anything. Just support her as a person, while trying to help her with her problem. If it gets much worse, I would be sure someone else in responsibility knew. It depends on how long she has been doing it. If it has been a while, it is likely that she can't just "snap" out of it.

Well I will let the ppl who are more experienced answer about the complications of starving yourself. It is known though that starving yourself is unsafe and you will gain the weight back quickly. Anyway, when I did a lifestyle change, I had to start eating more to speed up my metabolism. breakfast, small snack, lunch, small snack, and dinner. If u don't eat then your body has nothing to burn and will hold on to the little that is in the system.

Whoever said that it's bad that he's getting "amateur" answers, I don't agree. Although Yahoo! Answers aren't exactly the most... trustworthy source around, you'll still get an answer. I opt for the first answer, although what you can do is go to a local school counselor and express your concerns for your friend. Usually they have resources on this type of infomratoin. :-) You could also look up Bulimia.

She puts her body into emergency mode so that everything she puts into her mouth she gains as fat. Stupid, really stupid.
Also her body cannibalizes neighboring cells to get their protein, so she loses bone and muscle and then gains it all back as fat, so the long term affect is a cellulite lumpy body with heart defects.
Maybe if she decides to keep it up, she will be the fifty percent who discovers she has heart disease with a drop dead heart attack.

As long as she is drinking enough water fasting can be healthy. But too much calorie restriction can cause one to overeat in subsequent days and lower metabolism possibly.

she's not losing fat only water weight, so as soon as she eats again he body is just going to store water and she will weigh what she did before.
the body is not so easily fooled by starvation to release fat stores. you have to eat to get fat and you have to eat the "right" foods to get lean. there is no easy way to do this...
