First of all, talk to your doctor. Depression is a serious illness. If this is an "ongoing" depression you may need some help with medication. If it's a "situational" problem maybe some counseling with bio-feedback may be what you need.
I suffer from acute ongoing severe depression. I am on several kinds of medications as well as see a therapist once a week.
Go for a walk (exercise helps), force yourself to get out and visit a friend. Maybe go volunteer to help feed the elderly at a nursing home. I find that helping others really helps ME.
Talking to a therapist about the problems you are having may be just what you need.
Best of luck to you!

First, what's going wrong in your life? Is it something you have control over like bad decisions or is it something you have no control over? If you have control, then change it so it's the way you want it or at least so it's heading in the right direction.
Focus on what's right in your life. Believe me, I have lot's of crap too and if I dwelled on it, I'd go nuts.
Go outside and skip. I'm serious, it is physically impossible to skip and be sad. It's the weirdest damn thing. Try it.
I hated where I lived. I was a teacher, had a great apartment and savings built up...but I hated where I lived. So I moved, used up my savings while looking for a new job and place to live, but I love where I live now. I'm in a different "State" of mind. I gave up a lot to get happy. I had control. Was it easy? No. It was scary as hell but it had to be done for my own peace of mind.
Remember, you have a choice. You can control some things. The things you can't control are not worth getting upset over since you can't change it, right?

I had been really depressed for two years, I lost my father and mother within two years of each other then we moved a 1,000 miles away from three of my children.
I had a book for about three years but never really picked it up and ready until about two months ago. It is called the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
I felt a lot better after reading this book. Hope you feel better. But try this book I highly recommend it.

My doctor told me just being outside helps depression. I was also told to read, which takes your mind off other things. Mine is a chemical imbalance, so, I will be living with mine for the rest of my life.

I am sorry that this period of your life is on a downturn. I can sympathize with you and how it feels when trying to deal with "having too much on your plate" so to speak.
Isn't it the truth, that just when one is having difficulties and feeling lonely, them ol blues pays you a visit and decide to stay!!! making it real hard to get out there and socialize, which is what we need to feel better. It is understandable that you want to be less social, however, please at least take small steps that you can handle to move towards life's pleasures.
It is really really important to be kind to yourself when you are feeling this way. As I reassure you now, reassure yourself that things will not remain "bad" forever. When I feel that way, I make sure I do something to give myself a "lift", whether it is taking a walk, buying a new outfit,or setting a reasonable goal for a few months from now to do something I absolutely love. In the meantime, I like to put on music that reminds me of the good times of my life--trying to avoid the sad songs for now. Exercise releases "feel good" chemicals and the sun is essential in providing the vitamins you need to feel good, so it may sound silly, but it is documented to be true! B complex vitamins are also really good for stressful times. I like the liquid soluble b complex. It really makes me feel good and energetic, takes the nervous edge off of things for me so I can relax. I love to paint and that really gets it all out for me, and I love to work with polymer clay, you would be surprised at its therapeutic values..... anything creative will usually raise your spirits or get the stress out of your system. You don't have to be "Picasso" to get your feelings out using a paintbrush and making your own statement with colors, let the paintbrush travel wherever your mind tells you to go......it works for me.... if it were summer, I would be weeding, because that gets alot of the frustrations out !
I think it is wonderful that you are here and reaching out to people on the internet for starters. There are some totally amazing human beings out there that are good hearted and understanding and very willing to help and listen.
Fulfilling your dreams is a journey that begins with a first step; please do not lose sight of yours. There are so many possibilities out there for each and every one of us, so be kind to yourself and remember for those who look sunward, the shadows fall behind. Best of luck to you.Your friend, Wildrose
