a fade is closer to bald.. as a tapered fade is also really really short but it leaves the hair a tiny bit longer at the top and looks hotter in my opinion.. also.. the price you pay for your hair cut makes the difference.. and black barber shops are usually the way to go for this type of hair cut..

A fade works best on people with kinky hair - of African origin, usually. The hair is shaved along the sides and base of the head, and gradually faded into a longer (but often still extremely short) length at the top. The hairline around the face will usually be cleaned up with a razor for that fresh-from-the-barber-shop look.
A taper hairdo is more common on people with straight or wavy hair. The hair around the back and sides is clipped, but not shaved, and the length gets gradually longer until the longest hair is at the top and front of the scalp.
