OK, so I have an Alpine MRP-M850 (rated at 800W at 2ohms) that I will be using to push a Kicker CVR12 (max: 800W rms:400W).

My question is what gauge power and ground cable should I use to wire it all up? Also what size fuse should I use (the emphasis on the fuse being to protect my car and my equipment, obviously I would rather replace a fuse and have to turn down my gain than blow my amp or worse burn down my car)?

In my old car I had it hooked up with 10ga over 15ft, with a 30amp fuse. I was fully aware of what I was doing at the time and the gain on the amp has never been higher that 30% for safety's sake. But I've got a new car and it's finally time for me to crank up my amp and see what she can do.

On a side note, size wires should I use to lay down the infrastructure for a MRP-F250 (50W x 4) later on? Then All I would have to do is add a power block and fuse it all up nicely, without having to rip my interior apart twice.

I wouldn't run anything less than 4 AWG for 400 watts RMS and as far as the fuse, just add up the total fuse rating on the amp and use a fuse that size. The fuse at the battery is just there to protect the power wire from shorts, nothing else.

The gain should actually be matched with the RMS Volts coming from the HU to prevent distortion.

Oh, and the same power runs throught the ground as it does the HOT.

I have some 4/0 al wire. I have a 200 amp panel and want a 125 amp sub panel using the 4/0 seeing as i already have it being it is left over for 200' run to breaker/meter at road. Do they make pin adapters to facilitate this?

from 100 watts to 500 watts you could use 8 gauge wire and 501 watts too 1000 watts use 4 gauge wire.and you may wanna use a half farad cap on 100 to 500 watts and 1 farad cap on a 1000 watts, you need a half farad cap per every 500 watts.and keep your fuse close too the amp.i would run a 150 amp fuse for your set up.and keep the ground wire from your amp short as possible.and what ever size wire you run make sure pos. and neg. wire are the same gauge...

good rule of thumb is double your ground wire size. the most bower is transfered through the ground. look at your bat. cables and this will verify what i write. also try to make your ground wire as short as possible about 18". this will help eliminate the high pitch hum or any interference. your fuse needs to be just big enough to protect your amp. your wire size pwr. should be able to hold at least 80% more amps than your fuse. under sized wire will rob you of power resulting in power failer and less output to your subs or mids

For your 850 amp use 4 AWG. Your 450 use 8 AWG. Same sizes for both power and ground. Good chioce in amps though that what I have.

I would go with 8ga and a fifty amp fuse. That's what I have on my punch 250a2, no problems whatsoever.
