I'm aware of the basic differences between Dragon Naturally Speaking preferred and standard (eg, use with a dictaphone or pocket PC etc) but I'm wondering if Preferred is more accurate. A salesperson told me it was, but I've not been able to find anything to confirm this online. I'm wondering if he was just trying to sell my the more expensive product.

Hey there,

I have been messing with this speaking product since 1998 and I can tell you it has gotten better.

HOWEVER, it is not that great still. I had spent more time cleaning up documents after speaking them into the system that it was worth it for me to learn how to type faster.

The only real reason I can see people using this is for people with some sort of disability that they can not learn/do typing.

We tried to use this product for our "Special Ed" program. They didn't think that since these kids can not speak well, let alone have poor motor skills, that this wouldn't work. Everyone who they think needs it, the program comes back to say, "Please speak english"

There is a lot of voice recognition software out there. None of it works well. If you ask a salesperson, they will recommend anything you don't have.
