My granddad lost his leg in the Navy a long time ago and has had a wooden leg ever since. He didn't get a modern prosthesis because he lost his VA benefits, long story yadda yadda and he's pretty strange anyway. Well I know this sounds increidble but last summer while treating a fence for termites over a period of several days, he began to notice holes in his wooden leg and sure enough, a queen termite had managed to invade him and has been replenishing her brood the last several months. We're getting worried at this point because 1) it's creepy and kinda nasty and 2) we can't seem to kill them naturally. We've covered it in vaseline for weeks, we've applied heat, cold, smoke, bacon grease. Nothing seems to be able to kill them or force them out and we certainly can't don't want to use poisons. Any ideas???

Need to get it fumigated. A pest control company will tent his leg. They fill it with poisonous gas that will kill the termites, but when the gas is gone, the leg will be uncontaminated. I think that will solve the problem.

Get a new leg!! There is new technology, better comfort, no termite issues:) New are lighter in weight, stronger, more comfortable, easier to don...etc.

Covered by Medicare at 80% and if secondary insurance most likely all expenses will be covered. You dont need to go thru VA.

Even if termites are eliminated structural integrity of leg is compromised and who knows what types of bacteria they will leave behind. Even with the smallest cut, blister, sore bacteria could enter his limb and wreak more havoc than what the amputation has already caused! I urge you to have him see a prosthetist for a new leg.
