I have this one friend Paula and another friend named Kaelynn. Kaelynn has a bunch of illnesses goin on, even cancer. We have a bunch of mutual friends, and Paula seems to get off on making fun of Kaelynn and her illnesses, and lately I've noticed she makes fun of ALL of her friends behind their backs. And back when I had problems with depression, she would get furious because I was missing school and I wasn't around her all the time and she'd say all kinds of nasty things to me like "you're a lost cause" for example. What the heck is wrong with her? She claims to have been abused by her mother when she was little (sexually) but she tells this to everyone (just for attention and sympathy I assume) and I'm doubting this is true. She seems to enjoy seeing others in pain, and she has a really high opinion of herself.. is there a disorder/diagnoses for what is wrong with her? How would you deal with this behavior?

Doesn't sound capable of empathy.
You should think twice before rewarding her with your friendship.

the worst thing you can do is buy into it. People such as that have no idea how to get attention in a positive manner, they are completely self serving and have a serious disorder.

Not to sound dramatic, but they will drag anybody they possibly can into their dysfunction. There is sort of a blanket term of personality disorder that refers to people such as that.

Your best solution is distance yourself, she will most likely not recognize that she has a problem and will therefore not be likely to seek help. The best thing you can do for yourself is not deal with it. I am sure your own life will bring you enough stresses and challenges without adding in somebody who will surely being constant turmoil.

it sucks coming to the realization that some people like to manipulate and hurt others. ps i didnt read the whole thing. It's life and you will come across so much more of it. Just walk away. I am sorry you had to experience it now, but be prepared for more. Good luck dude!

I think she is evil, and a miserable excuse for a human being. You need to get a far away from her as soon as possible. One day she is going to fool with the wrong person and you don't want to be around for that?

Paula is not your friend. Friends do not behave to one another as she does to her "friends".
It sounds as if Paula has many issues she needs to deal with.
I would keep your distance from Paula.

ummm....... shes just a jerk. dont blame it on a disorder, because when you have a disorder you cant help it. i think she just has a complex. tell her to get over herself and go to college and make something of yourself so when you see her at your ten year reunion you can be like "ha...you suck"

They usually don't. I'd permanently terminate all contact with people like that. You don't need it.

Been there done that
