Keep working!! That exercise sounds good to me, and even if you aren't losing pounds, you are probably losing fat, assuming you aren't eating double the food to make up for it. It takes time to lose (and you may be heavier of course because muscle weighs more than fat, but muscle burns more calories so that helps a LOT). When this is over you should totally keep exercising even after the competition is over, it doesn't matter if you don't win, it's great that you are doing that exercising.

You only have 40 lbs to lose so it's not going to come off of you as fast as someone who has 70 or more lbs to lose. At least not in the beginning. In a few weeks, their weight loss will plateau or level out.

Also, you are doing weight training so the scale isn't going to show your fat loss. Your fat is dropping but muscle weighs more than fat, so the scale doesn't move. However, you can see, feel, and measure the difference. Your clothes should be fitting you better, you should be feeling better, and your measurements will go down as well.

Don't get discouraged. I do know how you feel. My goal is 40 lbs too. Stick with it! : )

A proper diet is the best way to lose weight naturally and keep it off. You have to eat a varied adequate and balanced diet. Your body needs all kinds of food to function properly including fat in smaller quantities though. Your body needs the nutrients and vitamins in fruits and vegetables the most, that is what you should eat the most of (at least 5 servings a day). You also need protein, and a little fat. Reduce your intake of sweets, fried food and foods that contain a lot of fat. Don't drink too many alcoholic beverages or soft drinks (they have a lot of calories). Don't go to sleep right after you eat. And finally exercise at least 3 to 4 days a week for about 45 minutes.Good luck. You can also get more information about nutrition from this site:

first of all the people that are losing a lot of weight quickly are probably doing so because they've signifcantly increased their physical activity while decreasing the calorie intake and so it's going to come off faster (at least at first)
the other important thing to remember is that muscle weighs more than fat, so instead of worrying about the weight I would find someone to do a body composition for you (in other words find out what your body fat % is and worry about that instead)
one of my biggest issues with the "Biggest Loser" is that they seem to be more concerned with the weight than with the % of body fat a person has.
FYI the greater % of lean muscle weight the faster your metabolism is going to be because muscle burns more effectively than fat.
So to be honest I wouldn't worry to much about it and stop comparing yourself to others, instead focus on how much better your clothes are fitting and how much better you're starting to look.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO STAY HEALTHY & LOOSE WEIGHT:
Drink lots of water, at least 8 - 10 glasses daily.
Prefer eating fresh fruits and vegetables to stored or canned ones as they lose some nutrients during storage !
Avoid eating junk food like noodles, pizzas, wafers sweets, icecreams, soft drinks etc. as they lack minerals and proteins and hence add to body weight.

If you are small, then it will take longer and harder work to lose the pounds you are hoping to lose. Usually, those with more percentage body fat lose faster at first, but eventually they slow down. You just need to be patient, and keep working hard. I am a highschool student, and I watch a lot of shows like biggest looser. Its not the poundage thas as important as the percentage.

When you first start exersizing - especially as hard as you are you lose fat and gain muscle mass. Measure your waist, or do the pinch test and you will find that even though you have gained mass you are smaller tighter and more fit.
