No, Tibet is a independent counrty, and people are called "Tibertian".
Tibet has its own languages, which is Chinese people don't understand.
On my trip in Tibet, i was surprised that they can speak Chinese and English, and Spanish, since Tibet has close trading relationship with China, and many toursit from South America and Europe. Honestly, i hardly see american tour.

k buddy, let's just put all the history behind us. China invaded Tibet in 1950, Tibet was annexed by China, therefore, it is now a part of China. It's not that hard of a concept! Other similar examples that never seem to be mentioned: the US's conquest of Florida and Texas from the Spainish, The British empire's conquests all over the world during the colonial age etc. This is why I ******* hate Free Tibet Hippies like yourself, bringing up history, human rights and what not, but you NEVER talk about who controls Tibet now. It's controled by the chinese, so it's a part of china. Boo ******* hoo, maybe you should focus on more significant problems in this world, for example, SOPA PIPA ACTA, tension with Iran, the US elites screwing with the american people.

It depends that part of the world you are from but as this moment it is as know as a special T.A.R zone which is run by the chinese goverment and is classied as being chinese but not of the chinese mainland. On the other hand although the chinese have been reported to have done many nasty things to tibet, people tend to forget that the lama dalla (sorry spelling) was the head of a govement at the time that was regilously xenophodic in nature, there slavery and serfdom was ok and the ecomincaly was closed and living condisions. Now if you ask the average Tibet ianhow post-chinese tibet was compaired to pre-chinese tibet, they would say although its not good it is better than that it was.

Tibet is still under Chinese control from Beijing, and the recent completion of a railroad to Lhasa may help cement control. The population of Han Chinese (the majority of the population in the major cities back east) in Tibet is increasing.
That being said, it is hard to make a case that Tibet is culturally part of China - the Tibetan language is very distantly related to Mandarin and the two are completely unintelligible, Tibet has a history of at least moderate self-rule, Tibet has its own version of Buddhism, and many other distinctive features.
So the answer? Sorta. I like to think of it as part of the 中华人民共和国 People's Republic of China (the modern government run from Beijing) but not part of 中国 China (the cultural entity).
In that sense it's a sorta anti-Taiwan - an island that is culturally 中国 China but is not 中华人民共和国 People's Republic of China. (The government of Taiwan is the 中华民国 Republic of China.)

Is Tibet part of China? Is that even a valid question?
Is Taiwan part of China? Is Canada part of the United States? Is New Zealand part of Australia? Is Mexico part of the United States?

Depends on who you ask. If you live in Tibet most likely you would say no, the reality however, is that China has laided claim to it and not much can be said.
