When ever I look into the Region and Spirituality category, people are always attacking one another. Why is it so hard to be respectful of one anothers beliefs? I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and love teh gospel. But I don't try to force it on anyone or hate anyone for believing differently. It's called free agency. I do tell people about my religion, because I want them to know about it and have the chance to study it for themselves, but I respect their decisions and personal beliefs. I just don't understand why there is so much hate for someone that simply feels differently then you.

Jessica, a very good question. Here is a place of religion and spirituallity, yet it seems rather backwards at times. I'm not saying that I've been perfectly innocent either. There can be a negative spirit present here at times. On the other hand, there are a lot of good people with sincere attitudes. It's good to bring this up now and then. Maybe it can rub off!

Everyone thinks it's really easy to disprove other people's views, and thus thinks they must be stupid or arrogant to keep believing them.

For example, I could never be a Mormon because of the moral conduct of the early members, the weird secret rituals, the stories that are impossible archaeologically, and the fact that verses have been changed repeatedly over time. But you have faith, and probably answers that allow you to keep believing. So I have a choice, do I think you're stupid, or accept that you are experiencing something I am not?

I think I'll go with the second one. May God guide you (I am a muslim)

There's some hostility but a lot more good natured intellectual sparring. No harm in that if it doesn't get too out of hand. Lots of people are emotionally invested in their religion and strong feelings lead to harsh comments sometimes. I'd say it's best to take it with a sense of humor or leave it alone.

I'm sorry to say it but it's the nature of man. It's been the cause of many wars throughout history. With all the different religions on this earth, how can anyone be so sure theirs is the correct or true version?
I don't know but I'm all for religious tolerance.

Many people feel threatened by fervently religious posters on here. Religion should be about love and acceptance yet it is now all about each group excluding those that don't follow their rules - hence not going to heaven. Fundamentalist want to run our country using biblical law - that is VERY threatening to those without the faith.

Because it's not just "Someone that simply feels differently than you" There is much more to it than that. In an ideal world, religion would be something that stayed private and out of one's face.

But we don't live in that world, and that is where the dislike (hate is such a strong word) comes from.

Also, religion tends to shape the way one speaks and acts in society, and for those of us who want to better our society, that is un-acceptable.

We think to believe strongly in something means we must also disregard the beliefs of others that contradict our own. I think we can have strong beliefs and still give others the right to be wrong. :-)

I think it is a human flaw to attack those who are different (politics, race, religion, culture, gender, age, etc.).

You seem to be enlightened, but unfortunately so many of us never rise above our own ignorance.

the generation isn't ready for the real truth yet, attacking one another is a healthy way to get mature to gain wisdom and eventually reach peace in the future.

Some people do it because mentally they feel like they are better than other religions.

Some do it just out of plain hatred and ignorance.
