I've had insomnia problems like this for years. I like to say that I just can't shut off my brain at night. Here are some basic rules to follow.

1) Never drink caffeine after 12pm. It takes about 12 hours for caffeine to leave your system. Therefore, if you drink a caffeinated soda with lunch, you will actually have the caffeine in your system as late as midnight.

2) Do not eat just before bedtime. If you are hungry or need to take medicine, have a glass of milk. This will have soothing properties to help you sleep.

3) Don't exercise in the 3 or 4 hours before wanting to sleep. It will get your adrenaline going and make it diffficult to relax and sleep.

4) DO exercise regularly during the day. This will reduce stress levels and will actually make it easier to relax at night. This can be as simple as a 20 minute walk during the day. I actually like to play Dance Dance Revolution on my PS2. It's less boring than running on a treadmill, and I am more motivated to do it.

5) Don't play computer or watch television just before bed. There's something about the way it stimulates your brain that will keep you awake, even if your eyes burn from tiredness.

6) If you must do something to get your mind off of the day's events, try reading a light book or magazine. It will give you something less stressful to focus on and think about as you fall asleep. I always read about 15 pages of a book just before bed. That way, I have something other than life's worries to think about, and I fall asleep much faster.

7) When all else fails, I will take 25 mg of Benedryl. I don't take any other sleep aids, because they can be habit forming and dangerous. I only take the Benedryl as an absolute last resort, however, and I rarely take it more than once or twice a month.

I hope this helps!

I've regularly had disorders napping. I'll opt for two weeks with one million-two hours max a night time, earlier than it eventually catches up on me, after which I'll have a couple of well nights, then again to no sleep once more. I have no idea why-were adore it for so long as I can take into account. But such a lot of my satisfactory strategies occur whilst I'm seeking to sleep. My mum has the equal obstacle

Stress causes major sleep problems. See what the cause of this problem is. Just breath and do some meditation/yoga to ease the mind and body. There must be too much or too little going on in your life. Go out for an intense run so your body gets extemely tired. I hope I helped you out a bit. Good luck.
