One of my dogs is a lab mix, she isn't lazy, she's RELAXED! She is very close to being a human being, she is so in tune to what we expect of her and how to behave, much more like a person that a dog. The retriever and collie are much more like the dogs you'd expect them to be. It is a gift that all labs have, to know that it is expected of them to lay down and be still and quiet. She knows she doesn't have to be on guard, is safe inside and she can relax. You are lucky, as I am, to have a super dog. Lab's are one of the best breeds you can ask for.

She might be a little depressed or bored in the house. Labs were originally bred as retrieving dogs, therefore they were very active and a high drive for action. Some dogs just need to feel they have a job.

I would recomend daily walks at least 45minutes.

My husky gets really naughty and distructive when I don't walk or run with her enough. I realized that the more exercise we did, the more I fullfilled her drive for what she was origonally bred for, running and high amt. of activity, she became an angel in the house. She wasn't bored or depressed anymore. She stopped digging, chewing, snapping at the other dogs, and chasing other animals.

Every dog is different but its only a suggestion.

I call these "carpet labs." You can guess why. Generally, it's just the sign of a mellow animal with good housemanners. Outside is the place to be excited and your dog knows it.

You do want to get your dog back to a healthy weight though, typically under 80 lbs for even the largest of labs. Dogs suffer from a vicious cycle where too much food/lack of exercise leads to greater weight, that leads to less energy and health problems, and so on. Break the cycle and you will have a happier, healthier dog.

I have a lab, but she is not lazy. SHe did get a little plump this fall, so we put her on a diet. She looks great now. Labs are very prone to being fat. SHe may be slowing down, depending on her age. I have a Great dane lab mix. He is 130 lbs. and 8 years old. He is starting to just lay around all the time.

Our Lab is pretty lazy too-- but this past summer, she got more sluggish.
We took her to the vet and her thyroid was so underactive that they couldn't even get a level. She is on meds now and returning to a much higher level of activity. Although her favorite place to be is still asleep under my feet. LOL

Yea my friend has two and they are quite lazy. You can try playing with her more inside, and outside...it usually tends to help them get more active. Dogs need exsersize alot but labs are usually lazy , well the ones i have known lol

My lab only started getting lazy after she turned 12, and even now she's not that lazy. You should probably talk to your vet. Your pet is probably not very happy if its not running around, is she in any pain?

I used to. Her name is Hershey and she was only 4. She was diagnosed w/ Lymphatic Cancer. She began to get really skinny and we had to put her down since she only had a few more months to life. Just unlucky...had nothing to do w/ being a little overweight. But to answer your question yes I used to. Labs get bored easily so try to play w/ her as much as you can. Hershey LOVED to go on walks even though she couldn't make it that far =[

If she's overweight, she probably isn't feeling her best. AND, if she's sluggish, she could have a thyroid problem. Get pet insurance, and then get her tested.
