Why does computer lock up,when xp is new and drive formated?

I formated my drive put in new partishion and loads windows xp new copy the mouse and keyboard works during insulation but when system reboots after setup completes everything locks up can anyone help me

Just reformat and do nothing to your pertation.
put instart up disk
goto boot up
choice CD-ROM support
F:/format c:\q\u
then goto c:/
at c type setup
c:/setup
then
your all set no problem

Look for the simple solution first:

- set wallpaper and screensaver to blank or none - they run in the background and use memory constantly.
- Review your startup - keep programs you intend to use daily.
- run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, defrag every two weeks. The more often they are run, the less time they take.
