go to the doctor. it could just be a pinched nerve but its better to get it checked out now and not let it grow worse

What kind of job do you do? Computer, clerical, office? All put strain on the neck, muscles get tight, tired. Did you injure it a year ago? If it's no serious enough for you to go to the doctor, then I believe your issue is in the muscles, not in the spinal area and can be eased with simply by massage, heating pads/cool pad, putting pressure with your fingers at the base of your head, muscles should be felt relaxing, get a neck support to rest your neck, your head is quite heavy and you get muscle fatique.

You might be carrying stress on your neck
sounds weird but it happens
when we get tense or upset we tense up and it will give a person neck aches or headaches, try going to get a massage.
they feel great
or maybe yoga
